    #CallToAction

Tell Congress to Fully Fund CHIP ASAP

In December, Congress finally passed a temporary measure that funds CHIP through March.  Unfortunately, many states will run out of funding starting January 19th.  The house resolution that would extend CHIP funding contains highly-partisan cuts to ACA funds as a means of funding CHIP.

The ultra-wealthy have their tax cut, but every-day Americans are in a position of losing either healthcare for our most vulnerable children or preventative services through the ACA that would lower healthcare costs across the board.

Tell your Members of Congress that this is not acceptable.  An adequate, long-term, bi-partisan funding solution must be found before January 19th.  5 Calls has more info and scripts.  Please call your Member of Congress today.

Protect equitable access to information - Defend Net Neutrality

On December 14th, the FCC voted to gut Net Neutrality Rules, opening the way for censorship and inequitable pricing by internet service providers.  Sen. Markey has started efforts to undo this vote.  Our major task is getting Senator Casey to join him.   See PA Together’s special Action Guide for ways you can protect an open and equitable internet.

Public Interest Law Center/League of Women Voters Lawsuit on Gerrymandering  Oral arguments begin on January 17th at 9:30 am in Harrisburg.  This is the next step of the process in having new legislative maps in time for the 2018 primary elections.  A verdict at the end of 2017 declared that the maps, while clearly partisan, were not unconstitutional.  This decision was expected based on previous opinions from the judge, and the case has been escalated to the PA Supreme Court.  Follow along at the PILC website, or sign up for email updates here.  We will bring you opportunities for action as they become available, so please check this document again over the course of the week.  It could make a big difference to the case for supporters of fair redistricting to attend the hearings.  Please RSVP to the Public Interest Law Center here if you plan to attend.

    Oppose Attacks on Immigrants

DACA will likely be a key bargaining chip in the upcoming 2018 budget discussions.  Congress has until 1/19 to reach a funding agreement to avoid a government shutdown.  Please pressure your members of congress to become Dream Heroes.  5Calls also has numbers, and scripts available.  Follow Make the Road Pennsylvania and CASA to stay up to date on actions.

Thank you to PA Together for the #CallToAction Information.
